TNG Reference
Did anyone else spot the Star Trek: TNG reference in tonight's Battlestar Galactica?

They met in Weapons Locker 1701D which is the number for the Enterprise in TNG.

I very rarely catch stuff like that so it was kind of exciting.

Are You Kidding Me?
I was just watching One Breath (X-Files) and realized that there was really only one episode between pregnant Scully and not pregnant Scully appearing on screen. I wasn't into the X-Files from the ground floor (I started watching the 3rd season I think) so I looked it up. She had a C-section and was only on maternity leave for 10 DAYS. That's insane. And okay, it might have had something to do with the fact that the Fox executives (and what a smart and cunning bunch they are) were still trying to get rid of her, but man that's crazy.

Teal'c Love
I love the big guy soooooo much. I've been watching season 2 episodes recently and I've always loved him of course, but was flipping channels last night and Zero Hour was on and I just ... gah! I love Teddybear Teal'c sooooo much. He really changed a lot over the seasons. It's really striking when you watch them out of order. He was fun as the stoic warrior, no doubt, but to see him later where he can break most people in two even MORE than he could in the early seasons (cause apparently Tretonin makes his muscles grow a LOT more - it must be a Jaffa steroid ;-)) and also doesn't feel the need to look threatening every moment is fun. He's just so cute in Zero Hour when he and Daniel are checking up on Sam to make sure she's not too upset about the mission. He doesn't say much but he's sitting there behind Daniel smiling - so early Sam/Teal'c subtext, man. Gah. I just adore him.

Jack was my touchstone character from the beginning, but after he left, Teal'c just really ate my brain.

The KR Movie
So, yeah.  I don't know.  I didn't love it, I didn't hate it.  Overall, I think I give it about a B-.  But my complaints are mostly minor - certainly things that could be fixed if it became a series.  I liked it, just didn't love it.

My one big complaint though, is that KI3T had zero personality.  The Mustang is not the only star of the show - what goes in it matters too.  And he had very little meaningful dialog and none of Kitt's snarkiness.  He had more personality in the 4 part Ford commercials.

Little Announcement
I have been terrible at keeping up with people online lately.  I just can't.  And I feel really bad about it.

But I have a good reason.

I'm pregnant (that's still scary to say, despite the fact that we're very excited about it).

Hubby and I are going to have our first child sometime in late August if everything goes okay (the due date is August 27th).  So I'm about 12 weeks along.  Just leaving the third trimester.  And as you can imagine, it's kind of changed things a lot in my life.  I have had no energy at all for fandom unless sitting on the couch watching DVDs of the shows counts.  ;-)  It's funny because I always thought that if I ever got pregnant, I'd have this mass panic to finish all my WIPs before the baby arrived.  Really not working out that way.  I really just ... well, it's crazy how quickly and fully my energies got redirected.  Which is how it should be in the grand scheme of things.

So.

That's what's been going on with me.

Gen Fic Recs
Could I trouble you lovely people for some genfic Stargate recs?  They can be your own stories or someone else's.  I'm looking for long stories - novella length or longer - to load on my PDA.  I'd like ones that are focused on the original team and don't sideline Teal'c.  I'd love it if they were long and plotty but still delve into the characters in some way.  Humorous, case file, or angsty are all good but I'd prefer not overly violent or with graphic whumping.

Got anything for me?

Surfaces and Has Some Thoughts About Stargate and Also Some Thoughts About Ships
So, some things in real life are making fandom not happen much at the moment.  They're things that are going to be going on for a while too, but I miss my flist.  And I miss partaking in interesting discussions with you all.

But I've been rewatching a lot of shows lately.  All of Firefly.  Season 1 of X-Files.  Season 1 of Dark Angel.  A little bit of Buffy and Angel.  And this morning I watched the first 4 eps of season 2 of Stargate.  It's actually really funny to go back.  It was interesting to see The Prisoners and The Gamekeeper again, especially since my opinion of both Sam and Daniel has gotten a lot better than what it was when I first watched those episodes (not a Sam or Daniel fan in those days).  Although I felt there was still a lot of overacting on Michael Shanks' part in The Gamekeeper, I did feel a lot more for Daniel than I did the first time I watched it.  It's also interesting to watch earlier season Teal'c.  He doesn't yet have the wise smile thing going.  He's a lot more, well, not stoic, but ... I don't know.  Less emotionally invested, I think.  And I'd totally forgotten about the open handed punching thing he used to do. It was also interesting to see early Bra'tac in Serpents Lair. He was a lot more cantankerous in the early days than he ended up being. ;-)

Also, watching Dark Angel and seeing the ship memes that are going around on the flist has me thinking about ships.

And wow was that babbly and random.

Maybe I should stay off the interwebs.  ;-)

The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Warning this post is filled with actor name misspellings because I am way too lazy right now to look them up.

I liked tonight's episode a lot.  Yesterday's was good too, but a little too much chasing for me.  I felt that way about the movies too - great premise, but at times it was just this constant 'it's still coming.  How do we slow it down now?'  And to me that gets really, really old.  What I really love is all the time paradox stuff.  But tonight dealt a lot with their situation and how they're handling it.  And I loved Tony Amendola's character and I really really like Lena Headly as Sarah Connor.  She is awesome.  And of course Summer Glau is awesome as the protective Terminator.  Cut for my speculation on what's going on with her being more human like.  Spoilers for what I remember of T3. )

And I already really wish I had SCC icons, so that's always a good sign for a show.  :-D

And I know I have stories to read and I am looking forward to it.  But right now I am looking forward to sleeping more.  So I will have to delay story fun until later.  But I shall read them, oh yes, I will.

Life is kicking my butt right now which is seriously pushing fandom participation (and too many other things) to the backburner.  I spent most of the weekend holed up on the couch watching Firefly because I didn't have the energy to do anything else.  I hope all is well with everyone.  Hopefully I will have more energy soon and be able to get back in the swing of things.

You Know
I'm not really a Hillary fan.  She's not my candidate for several reasons.  There are things I like about her, but a lot of things that I don't care for.

But this pisses me off.

I also get a little bit annoyed when the press keeps saying how Barak Obama's candidacy is attempting to make history, then mentions Hillary's campaign and doesn't mention that she too is attempting to make history.

Bah.

Yuletide Fic #2:  Buck Rogers - Earth, Wind, and Fire
I saw this request come across the pinch hit list and I didn't get it.  But then it also showed up again at the very end in the list of recipients who didn't have a story yet, so I wrote this very quickly, in a day or two.  Not my preferred way of writing, but I think it came out okay.

Yuletide Fic #1:  The Princess Bride, There Will Be No Survivors
So the story I was assigned for Yuletide this year was in the Princess Bride.  It was fun to write in the fandom, but hard because it has such a unique style.

Fandom:  The Princess Bride
Title:  There Will Be No Survivors (Except for the Survivors Behind the Curtain, But Pay No Attention to Them)
Author:  knightshade
Rating: PG
Summary:  Westley wants to turn over the Dread Pirate Roberts gig to Inigo but things are not going as smoothly as he'd hoped (post movie).
